{"id":68,"date":"2013-08-24T15:15:11","date_gmt":"2013-08-24T13:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fraumorena.wordpress.com\/?p=68"},"modified":"2014-10-13T18:08:15","modified_gmt":"2014-10-13T16:08:15","slug":"berlin-auguststrasse-mitte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/?p=68","title":{"rendered":"Berlin &#8211; Auguststra\u00dfe (Mitte)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I prepared my trip to Berlin last week I found a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wearecity.de\/likes\/judith_linienstrasse_auguststrasse\">recommendation<\/a> on one of my favorite sites about wonderful places in Cologne and Berlin\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wearecity.de\">wearecity.de<\/a>\u00a0which was the <strong>Auguststra\u00dfe<\/strong> in the Berlin district <strong>Mitte.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Until the German Holocaust the Auguststra\u00dfe was characterized by mainly jewish residents. There was a jewish hospital and a jewish school for girls.<br \/>\nNowadays it&#8217;s a place full of contemporary art and Streetart. A very light street with many wonderful refurbished old buildings which give the street its unique historical but clear atmosphere. There are a lot of galleries and artist collectives such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kw-berlin.de\/de\/institution\/\">Kunst-Werke<\/a>\u00a0Institute for Contemporary Art (KW) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.me-berlin.com\">me collectors room<\/a>. Every second year the Auguststra\u00dfe is the center of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.berlinbiennale.de\/blog\/\">Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3482_KW_eingang.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-131\" src=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3482_KW_eingang-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Eingang Kunst-Werke\" width=\"529\" height=\"794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3482_KW_eingang-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3482_KW_eingang-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3482_KW_eingang.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another historical location at Auguststra\u00dfe is<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballhaus.de\">Cl\u00e4rchens Ballhaus<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; one of the last preserved ballroom buildings from around 1900. It&#8217;s a mixture of restaurant and dance hall where you can visit parties and concerts. There are also a lot dancing courses you can attend. In front of the building is a wonderful green patio where you can sit together and have a drink or a meal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3490_claerchens_ballhaus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-125\" src=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3490_claerchens_ballhaus-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Cl\u00e4rchens ballhaus Terrasse\" width=\"529\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3490_claerchens_ballhaus-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3490_claerchens_ballhaus-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/annamorena.de\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MG_3490_claerchens_ballhaus.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A very special artwork of the street was created by the Indian artist\u00a0<strong>N S Harsha:\u00a0<\/strong>A house covered with ape figures that are connected by their long tails. The installation is called\u00a0&#171;Tamasha&#187; which is a colloquial used word in Hindi, Urdu and Marathi and means big show as well as commotion.<br \/>\nThe artists intention was to connect the Indian cult of apes and the existing ape plague of everyday life in Indian with the german myth of the <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rattenk\u00f6nig\">&#171;Rattenk\u00f6nig&#187;<\/a> (rat king). The myth refers to the rare phenomenon of rats that were found with their tails knotted together within narrow spaces.
